In its spring forecast, the European Commission estimates a real GDP growth of 1.1% for the European Union and 0.9% for the euro area in 2025, significantly lower than the figures projected in the autumn of 2024. This downward revision is mainly driven by the effects of increased tariffs and growing uncertainties stemming from recent abrupt shifts in U.S. trade policy, as well as the lack of clarity regarding the final structure of the tariff regime. As for Romania, the Commission estimates that GDP grew by 0.8% in 2024 and anticipates an acceleration of growth to 1.4% in 2025 and 2.2% in 2026.
